2017 Commonwealth Championships Europe
The 5th Commonwealth Archery Championships for Europe took place in conjunction with the Euronations event on 1st July 2017. The event was hosted by Royal Navy South Coast Archers, for the English Archery Federation, on the Polo Field at HMSSultan in Portsmouth. Each country was invited to enter up to three athletes in each of four categories, Recurve Men, Recurve Women, Compound Men and Compound Women. Forty-one archers, representing four countries (England, Northern Ireland, Scotland, Wales), shot in sunshine with a blustery wind.
Individual Commonwealth awards of specially commissioned glass medallions, together with a certificate of achievement, were based on a World Record Status 720 round. This was followed by Mixed Team Head to Head matches to decide Euronations team winners. Thanks to Archery GB for providing the medallions which were presented by Hilda Gibson, World Archery Europe Executive Board Member. Thanks also to Landrover, Quicks, Bowrap and Asda for their sponsorship of the event.
Next year’s event is scheduled to take place in Guernsey in July.
